The 8th International Soft Matter Conference (ISMC 2024) was held from July 29 to August 2, 2024, in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA.

ISMC is one of the world's largest conferences focused on "Soft Matter"—an interdisciplinary field spanning physics, chemistry, and biology, covering materials such as colloids, polymers, and liquid crystals. This 8th edition marked the first time the conference was hosted in American , bringing together over 800 researchers from around the globe.

Prof. Gong contributed to the conference as a member of the International Program Committee (IPC). She worked alongside distinguished international scholars to develop a comprehensive program covering cutting-edge topics such as active matter, biological soft matter, and self-assembly.

During the conference, Prof. Gong also delivered a Plenary Talk titled "Mechanochemistry in Double Network Materials".

Prior to the main conference, a "Young Investigator Workshop" was held on July 27–28, 2024, at the North Carolina State University (NCSU) campus.

Mr. Masahiro Yoshida (LeNet Research Collaborator) DC student, participated in this pre-conference event. He was selected to serve as a Session Chair, leading active discussions among the next generation of soft matter researchers.
